Thank you so much for your help. Thank you for giving up so many of your days off to photograph weddings. Thank you so much for never giving up on me, despite my craziness and emotional instability at times :) Thank you for learning the skill of photography, for teaching me how to be more creative, and for making sure that every family member makes it into the family photos at a wedding. Thank you for letting me drink starbucks all the time (seriously, you are so sweet). Thank you for serving the people around us so well and then taking the time to serve me. Thank you for making our life an adventure. Thank you for making me laugh so hard -- and for making the bridal party laugh when things get kind of hectic. Thank you for standing beside me, and leading me.
Thank you Kenny -- for everything. I am so proud to be your wife, friend and have you by my side at nearly every wedding. I think the world would agree -- I am one lucky girl!

Well -- it is no secret -- I like shoes! I think there is something about a pair of heels or the sweetest pair of flats that just inspire me creatively. Believe it or not, I always start a wedding day, photographing the bride's shoes.

I'm off to shoot a senior session -- and I'll be sporting some cute shoes for inspiration -- but not quite as cute as this bride's heels :) (More on these shoes later...)

Chico California Wedding Photographer: Saturday...

I think it is hard to know what to write on the world wide web. You never really know who reads your posts. My vulnerability is best seen behind the camera, where I take risks and pour my heart into the art that I am creating and the life that I am capturing. However, sometimes I just want to write. Today won't be one of those long winded conversations -- but I am asking you to join me in something wonderful.

You see, I am praying. Praying for a break in this crazy weather. And while I would certainly love to see the sun for a dose of Vitamin D, I am praying because of this sweet couple below. You see, Saturday marks their wedding day. It is going to be a gorgeous affair -- outdoors, here in Chico. Bethany will be a radiant bride, and I know a beautiful spring day would mean the world to both of them!
So, I am praying for a "rainless" Saturday and am asking you to join me. The weather channel says rain, but I think God can work a miracle. What do you think? Will you join me?

I adore this couple and I can't wait to see what God will do on their wedding day. And just so you know, I will keep you posted :)

Chico California Wedding Photographer: Billy and Bri's Engagement

Last Friday I had the opportunity to work with Billy and Bri -- at Disneyland!
Billy is in the military, and currently stationed in Korea, so we had to take advantage of his two weeks at home. When we discovered that my trip to Mexico, would overlap with their trip to southern California, we quickly decided that Disneyland would be our meeting spot. And... it worked perfect!
Bri and Billy have a zeal for life. They laugh so easily and make everyone around them feel so comfortable. I loved being around them!
While shooting at Disneyland certainly held some challenges for me as an artist, I was surprised and excited to find so many spots with great light and less crowds :) They were such good sports as we hiked around all of disneyland!
Thank you Bri and Billy! I look forward to your wedding -- and to getting to know you more. What a joy to be at the happiest place on earth with the two of you!

My tan from Mexico is quickly fading, as I watch the water pour down outside :) It has been a really strange week of weather here in Chico. Lots of rain, and it feels really cold outside. Maybe the eighty five degree weather in Mexico spoiled me.
Anyway, because of the weather, most of my sessions have been rescheduled and I am catching up on TONS of editing!

This little girl and her sweet parents, had a quick session with me before I left for Mexico. I always appreciate meeting new people and hearing some of their story. Brooke is a beatiful blonde and will be a wonderful big sister in the near future :)

Chico California Photographer: Some Thoughts from Mexico...

We spent the last week with eighty seven people, building homes in Mexico. It was a beautiful adventure, with a lot of powerful moments that I got to capture behind the camera. (Granted, I am not naturally gifted at roughing it in the middle of the desert, so being home never felt better :))
Tonight, I just wanted to share a few of my favorite details. I have not even had time to cull through all of the photos, but these ones stuck out to me from the start. As you are starting to see, I love the abstract details and Mexico is full of so many great colors!
I know it is simply a tease and doesn't even begin to show the work and emotions that went into this trip, so bear with me as I will show more from the trip in the coming weeks.
On another note -- the blog will start to be full -- so please keep in touch! I will have so many beautiful people and weddings to show you soon! Cheers to Monday and a couple days off! Kenny and I will be catching up on some much needed rest -- and of course some of our favorite shows like Survivor and The Amazing Race!

Chico California Wedding Photographer: Chris and Mallory

Chris and Mallory met in class -- and from the moment they discovered they lived in the same dorm, they just clicked. They would find themselves waiting for each other at the dorm, just to walk to class together. Soon after, they started dating and as you can tell, they are perfect for each other. Chris asked Mallory to marry him this year and she said yes! I have not known the two of them long, but I already just love them!
Enjoy a look at these photos from their engagement session -- I can hardly wait until their wedding! It will be gorgeous!

As for this photo, we started the session here -- and soon discovered that the horses love attention!

Chico California Wedding Photographer: My Crazy Life...

Well -- It's official: I have not been writing four blog posts per week. This is so disappointing for me to admit, however maybe, just maybe, I have some valid excuses:

First, I caught something terrible a couple weeks ago. It left me sick for almost two weeks. Don't worry though -- Five days of antibiotics later, I am healthy once again :)
Also, my world is currently spinning, as I am wrapping up engagement sessions and turning the corner towards wedding season. I am also learning that in Chico, students schedule their senior portaits in the spring, rather than the fall, as I am used to. This makes my scheduling even more busy right now, but oh so fun!
And finally, I am trying to pack and prepare for a week long trip to Mexico where I will certainly be roughing it (porta-potty's only: However I will manage to sleep in a trailer rather than a tent). We will be building homes and serving alongside ninety students and volunteers from our church. Kenny is in charge of the trip this year, making our life a little crazy :)

Ok -- so there you have it. My excuses. I am sorry I have been so absent from my blog. It will be getting more attention sometime in the near future :)

Chico California Photographer: An Open Chair...

As I was culling through my images from an event the other night, I came across this photograph, just a regular chair, waiting to be discovered.

And that made me think, there are open chairs all around me: Beautiful chairs and worn down chairs, folding chairs and those rare treasured chairs, that you would give nearly anything to sit in. And for some reason... I can't help, but photograph these chairs.

You know what's funny -- I don't think it is the chairs that really matter. It is the invitation that the chair holds: to just be. And that is the invitation that I give you. Because when you sit awhile, there are stories to be told.

So I inivite you. Take a seat, kick your feet up, and let me begin to tell a bit of your story. There's an open chair waiting for you :)

Chico California Photographer: Inside My Living Room

For many years, I have been hoping for an armoire. It was one of those pieces of furniture that wasn't totally necessary, but in the back of my mind, I never gave up looking for a good one. After years of looking on Craigslist and going back and forth on how much to spend on such a piece of furniture, we finally caved and found just the perfect piece.
And, I am so excited about the end result. It is beautiful to me. It compliments our style really well. As you will see, my style is very neutral... And I like that. It is simple. So, here are just a couple photos -- a small glimpse into our living room and the newest "furniture investment" in the Stone household.

Cheers to Friday! We are on our fifth day of illness in the Stone family, and I am praying for some relief soon. It sure makes me thankful for the health that we usually have :)

Last week, I got to work with Fleet Feet in downtown Chico. Talk about an awesome concept and store. Seriously, whether you are a marathon runner or you walk even just a little bit, this company has so much to offer, from shoes to retail. The owners have done an amazing job of building the Fleet Feet brand. You can find them on the web here or on facebook here.

The "shoe wall" in itself, is just amazing! They spend a lot of time with each customer, fitting exactly the right shoe to both need and style. It is pretty cool to watch.

The apparel is really high quality -- only the best for anyone who is active.

Chico California Photographer: What is My Style?

I am asked this question all the time: What is your style?
I pondered this so much over the years, especially as my work began to evolve. It has been in the past twelve months that I finally understand what I love most, what is my style:

To produce beautiful images, straight out of my camera.

To spend a small amount of time in my "digital darkrooms", editing my photos.

Really, all I want to do -- is make life, look real, right inside my camera.

Chico California Portrait Photographer: Ryan, Megan and Ethan

I think it is fitting to have a post with this sweet family today as it has been nearly one year since Kenny and I moved to Chico. At this time last year, Ryan and Megan invited us in as roomates. Little did they know, they would have to put up with us for almost three months. You have to be pretty amazing to live with Kenny and I for that long -- and let me tell you, they are! Now they have sweet Ethan.
All that to say, I am so grateful for Ryan and Megan and Ethan. Documenting their pregnancy through Ethan's four months has been wonderful. They are great parents -- and Ethan is a bundle of cuteness... I know you will be seeing more of this little guy.

We started the session in their home, just hanging out...

They are such good parents...

Poor little man -- there is nothing worse than a camera in your face.

Not to worry, he calmed right down in his Mom's arms...

We went to a location outside and Ethan loved it.... They are a beautiful family, huh?

Made in Chico -- what a wonderful concept behind this store! I am honored to showcase some of their retail designs here. Made In Chico sells everything from vintage furniture to jewelery, and it is all local. It comes from a variety of different people and brands, made right here in our sweet town. Let me tell you, I could spend a lot of time discovering little gems in this store. Last week, I had the privelege of working with them and here are some of my favorite details. I could go on and on....

Chico California Photographer: Seasons

I snapped these photos before a session this weekend. It is so amazing to see the seasons change right before our eyes. I have been struck lately with how quickly life changes.

One of the reasons that I have been so thoughtful of this, is because of Sara's story. Sara is a senior in college, the sister of a friend of mine, and she has cancer. Every time I read a new post on her caring bridge website, I am inspired and convicted. I believe that God is using Sara right now -- and that her story is beautiful.

When I think of seasons changing, I think of this verse:
"For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:
A time to be born and a time to die;
A time to plant and a time to pluck up what is planted;
A time to kill, and a time to heal;
A time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh;
A time to mourn, and a time to dance...
And He has made everything beautiful in its time."
Ecclesiastes 3

I know that God has a beautiful ending to Sara's story as well as yours and mine. May we learn to embrace the seasons of our lives and in the end let God create something magnificent out of our moments.

Chico California Photographer: Snapshots of Some Cuties...

Well -- this week certainly got away from me! Getting back into the routine of things after four days in Disneyland is harder than it sounds :)

I am still working on downloading all of my photos from the time with my family -- but I didn't have any problem picking out these favorite snapshots of Adelaide and Benjamin. I am so blessed with the cutest neice and nephew! They are sweet children and were such troopers to our long days in Disneyland. Of course, you will see that getting a three year old to look at the camera is not easy -- especially when you are at the happiest place on earth. I love my family so much and creating memories together this past weekend was priceless. I wouldn't trade it for the world!

Chico California Wedding Photographer: David and Casey

Gosh -- I don't think I could like my job any more than I do! Posting a wedding makes me realize how much I really, really love capturing these glorious moments!

David and Casey were married in a beautiful church in Fillmore, California just east of Ventura. I was so excited to have the 2011 wedding season start with this one. David and Casey love God and love each other so much! They are truly a beautiful couple.
On their wedding day -- I don't think their joy could have been any greater. They were so excited to see each other -- you will see a couple photos from their first look -- and you just see that they are good friends. Their wedding was meaningful -- the ceremony taking place in the church that Casey's father pastored. The reception was filled with so many fun friends and family. It was a blessed night and I am so glad that I Kenny and I could be a part of it.
Thank you David and Casey. You are so wonderful!

There is no way around it -- the details in her dress were amazing -- not to mention Casey is a stunning bride!

David -- you are one lucky guy! Thanks for finding "plan B" for our first look photos...

Oh, the first look! Everything was planned out -- photos were going to be taken in a beautiful park just west of town. When Kenny and I arrived early to scope out the park, we were greeted with information that the park was closed and trespassers were definitely not allowed... So, I headed back to the Salon to photograph the girls, while Kenny and the boys headed to find "plan b". Now remember, Kenny and I have never traveled to this town -- we don't know a thing. Thankfully, the boys ended up in the quaint downtown area. These people are truly the best!

Casey put up with the wind all day long -- You rocked it, sister!

I try to place my couples in somewhat of a pose, and then let them do their thing. I love the results -- and especially like this "in between" moment here...

How can you not love the expressions on the groomsmen's faces?...

When I arrived downtown with the girls, I noticed this little antique store. I saw the gorgeous light streaming in and knew that I need to take at least a few photos here.

We headed to the church and I snapped just a few photos before the wedding began...

Casey's father passed away when she was in college -- It was an absolutely touching, beautiful moment when Casey walked down the aisle between her younger brother and mother. One of the moments where you feel God's presence...

And -- they are excited to be Mr. and Mrs.....

Chico California Photographer: Today I Caved...

I gave in... I never thought I would... But I did...

For those of you who know me, you know I like a good Chai tea. So, when I say I am a Starbucks fan, which I definitely am, I am not necessarily a coffee drinker. I go for a chai tea latte with a touch of whip cream and cinnamon on top. So tasty!

Today, I drank an americano. Straight from my espresso machine, no added sugar, nothing but a touch of cream. It was two o clock and I still had a long way to go. And so, I drank an americano.

It was ok -- Tomorrow, I think I will drink a chai tea.

Chico California Wedding Photographer: An Investment Worthwhile...

Back in 2004, when I was engaged and planning my wedding, I did not prioritize photography. Crazy, huh? You see, I am a very practical person and all I could see in my mind was numbers. No one told me that photography is an investment.

So, what did I do? I hired a friend -- who loved photography and had a great camera. While I am thankful for his hard work on the day of my wedding, he didn't have the experience or equipment that a quality, professional has to offer. To this day, I do not have one portrait from my wedding hanging in my home. Goodness -- and I am a wedding photographer!

I think this is very common for a lot of brides and grooms. Photography simply is misunderstood. It is so easy to just see photographers as another vendor to hire and fit into your budget on a wedding day. Yet, wedding photographers will serve you long after your wedding day. You will always have your photos to remember the glorious moments of that day.

So think about it -- Look at the long term investment that a quality wedding photographer has to offer. Sometimes, brides and grooms are so quick to dismiss a photographer because of the price -- I would say meet with that photographer. See if you truly appreciate their work -- and maybe, be convinced that this vendor is worth investing in. I know money doesn't grow on trees and believe me, I am a very frugal person. Just ask Kenny, I do not like to spend money. The thing is, to this day, I really, really wish that I had spent more money on my wedding photography.

Olivia James Hair Salon -- It just sounds wonderful -- and it is!
Yesterday, I had the privelege of photographing this business and let me tell you -- the Salon is full of life! There were stylists and clients everywhere. Everyone seemed so happy to be there. I think it is because the owners of the Salon, Martin and Lori, do such a good job of managing and hiring a creative and excellent team of people. I know some of the stylists and they are among the best!

Lauren wrote me close to Thanksgiving, asking about wedding photography. I can remember emailing her back in moments time, because she just sounded like so much fun to work with. I was right -- Bobby and Lauren are wonderful! Bobby is in Medical School right now and Lauren works as a nurse. What a great combination and I just have a feeling these two will spend their lives serving other people. Here is a glimpse into my time with them. I spent way too much time on this post, because I just could not decide which photos to post and which to leave out. They are a beautiful couple!

A picture is worth a thousand words... True or false?

Obviously, you know what I think. For proof as to how much I value a printed photo, let's look at my doorway: It is still covered in Christmas cards. Cards that show me the faces of so many people who I love. These photos remind me of how blessed I am. They tell me some kind of story, and so, yes, I do believe that a picture is worth many words.

Now, the real question is -- what should I do with my Christmas Cards? I definitely don't want to throw them away and I am not sure that I want to take them down. This is truly a dilemma. What do you do with your Christmas Cards? I would love to know.

Oh my -- 2010 was a very eventful year! One of my personal goals this year is not to move -- For those of you who don't know, In the last five and a half years, we have moved six times :) I love Kenny dearly and we are just looking forward to working on having a boring life this year :)
Back to the photos -- here are only a few of my favorites from 2010. I actually had some computer problems today (not a good thing), so I am improvising on this post. I planned to share one photo from each wedding and portrait session this past year. I guess this will have to do in order to keep up with my blogging :)
I can't say it enough -- I am so grateful for my job and for all of you! What a blessed life!! Please feel free to pass on my name this next year. I am really trying to concentrate on weddings, but still have a love for potrraits!

Chico California Wedding Photographer: Why am I a Wedding Photographer?

Last year, in the middle of photographing a wedding, I had a life changing moment.

It was during the mother/son dance of these two below. There was so much life and emotion going on, that I found myself crying right along with these two. I tucked that moment away, knowing that I never wanted to forget.

You see, later that evening and even to this day, I realize that I am witnessing and capturing miracles all the time. I am getting a glimpse into the souls of people -- and it is a gift to me. I am moved as I watch people say I do -- and after this moment, last summer, I will never be the same. I am a wedding photographer because there is nothing greater than the power of Love. If I can capture that, and show that to the world, then I think it will change people -- It changed me.

So, to Jeff and Nancy. There was a powerful moment when you gave your son away to his new bride. As you laid your head on his shoulder, that bittersweet moment was full of love and it changed me. Thank you so much for giving me the honor of capturing that.

Chico California Wedding Photographer: Looking Forward

Well the new year has officially begun and I am back in my, now, clean office. For those of you who follow me on twitter and facebook, you will know that this was a two day project! The only thing left to do is finish organizing all of my paperwork. Which, I will let you know when that is finished :)

I wanted to share my vision for 2011 with all of you. One, because I know writing it on the world wide web will give me much accountability and two, because I really am excited about this year.

I guess you can call them goals, but here are some things to look for in 2011:

I will write a blog post at least four times per week. This will be a discipline for me, something that will take planning and creativity, yet something that I desperately want to accomplish.

Make a conscious decision to take risks. At times, I will most likely fail, but I am growing to appreciate imperfection. This stretches both my resilience and growth as a photographer. Really though -- this is not easy for me. If any of you know me, I am not a risk taker. I am still contemplating whether or not I will ride on the Tower of Terror this coming month when my family goes to Disneyland. I know, crazy huh?

In the next couple months, the look of my blog will be changing ... So exciting!

Limit my work hours at night. This industry can be so consuming, and it is so important for me to be conscious of the time I spend at work. This year, I want to spend more time with the people around me. I am going to work on my domestic skills, so Kenny -- Get excited! Dinners can only go up from here!

I am going to read the following books this year and share my thoughts with you on the blog.
(I know, it is only three books, but that sounds like enough to commit to in writing).
Easy as Pie by Alicia Caine
Seven Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R Covey
The Book on Leadership by John McArthur

Know what I need to do every day that is productive and stay away from the things that are dragging me down. The internet can be a great resource, but it can also discourage us. My Dad is in management and he really has been encouraging me to know what I need to do each day that will enrich this business, and to stay away from the things that are simply ineffective. This is my goal.

Random Personal Goal: Drink more water. My doctor told me this would be very good for me... Less chai tea, more water!

Finally, I just want to serve people wholeheartedly. You can read more about this here...

So that's some of my thoughts. I would love to know what you think.
2011 is going to be full of amazing moments and I hope I can share so many of them with you.

Chico California Photographer: M Creations

I met Melinda, with M Creations, this past summer at this wedding. Her work is amazing... If only I could bottle up her creativity. It is simply beautiful!

Right before Christmas, I spent some time in her shop, photographing details. I was concentrating on capturing this beautiful bouquet below, but of course, couldn't stop at just that.

Melinda -- you are so gifted. I would highly recommend her to any bride, or event planner. Her work is unique, trendy and just fabulous!

I just love these details in her shop! If you haven't been to M Creations, you must stop by. She is located on Main Street, in downtown Chico.

Chico California Wedding Photography: The First Monday of 2011

With the start of a new year, I always feel motivated, excited and worried .... Yes, I just admitted to the world wide web that I tend to worry. I worry about silly things -- like whether or not I should commit to a whole month without starbucks, but I also worry about the bigger wonders of life. What will 2011 look like for me?

As I have mulled the worries around in my head and my heart, I have been convicted that my worry is simply ridding me of belief in something Great! So my mindset is changing -- and I am believing that this year will be perfect. Perfect, because I believe in a God who has every detail of my life, including this business, planned out. He will give me exactly what is right for me because He is perfect. This year, I will try, try my best not to fret over the unknown.

So, I am excited! I am excited to serve people better than I have before -- I am excited to see who will come into my life this year because of this business. I cannot wait for the weddings this season and I cannot wait to hear from more of you! Please, I would love the opportunity to work with you. It brings me so much joy to serve in this industry!

Whew -- I just finished up my last session for 2010, photographing some details for Melinda, at M Creations. It was so much fun, and I left a tease below...

For now, Merry Christmas!
Our Christmas will be different this year, as we will be at home, just the two of us. We will make some new traditions and I am sure it will seem very quiet...
Don't you worry about us though -- we are tuckered and rest could not sound better.
2010 has been crazy and wonderful all at the same time. We have moved to a different state, started a new job, uprooted this business to Chico, practically starting at square one, lived in the bedroom of someone elses home, became landlords, and jumped right into ministry at our new church. We love it -- and wouldn't ask for anything different (unless someone wants to buy our home in Portland), but we are tired. So rest is good for us this Christmas. I am already going through family withdrawals -- we will miss them like crazy and we will be skyping from our living room on Christmas day. Oh, and we will be eating enchiladas on Christmas (at Kenny's request), so if you have a hankering for Mexican food, you know where to find it :)

Anyway, Merry Christmas to everyone! I am overwhelmed by what God has given me through this business. I can't wait to see what He will do in 2011. Thank you everyone!

Meet Chris and Katie -- beautiful people, who absolutely love one another! As I edited this photo session, I could definitely see the love that these two have for one another. Chris adores Katie -- Once you see these photos you will know what I mean. It is obvious that Katie trusts Chris through and through. They are just perfect for one another.
In June, after four years of dating and graduation, these two will tie the knot! I am so looking forward to their wedding.

Chico California Wedding Photographer: Photography as An Art...

The other day, while on a walk, I found both of these things within about one block of each other. These are nearly treasures to a person like me -- the chairs hold so much potential for a re-design and the tricycle is just perfect. While they were just sitting near the curb, and while I could have justified taking them (seeing as they may have been out for that reason), the fact of the matter remained -- they weren't mine. So instead, I took a picture :)

I think this can be related to photography (bear with me): The photography industry has grown so much in the past decade. When I first studied photography in 1998, we developed our film and images in darkrooms. The digital era came upon us and suddenly we were all given the opportunity to pursue this art. This is wonderful! I have had so many more opportunities because of the digital era. However, I think there are some challenges.

Getting back to the photo below:
As a photographer, I have mentors in this industry. With photographers being more present than ever on the web, I am often inspired by the work of my colleagues. This in itself, is a great thing. Where it gets dangerous, is when we start to take others ideas and we no longer have our own. Photography is an infusion of skill and creativity. Skills can be developed, but it is our artistry that makes us unique.

For me, creativity has been the more difficult part of this industry. I am logical by nature and so I love to figure out the technical side of photography. Innovation and design is where I must work the hardest. Really, I have to be conscious that I don't simply copy other photographers. I must have a clear vision of what I want my business to look like.

So, when I am inspired by my mentors in this industry, I have to remember, that similar to the items in the photo below, their business and their designs and their photography is not mine. It is not free for the taking, even when it is so tempting.

I hope this blog post inspires other photographers in the industry to continue to stretch yourself creatively. If we are all working hard to develop our own ideas and work, then we won't be tempted to use someone elses.

Chico California Photographer: Wrapping Up...

I am busy wrapping up the 2010 season, with these two mini sessions and an engagement session to come tomorrow...

Brandon, Malinda and Ella are new clients to me and I am so grateful for them. When I first met them, I knew that we would be friends. They are among the kindest and gentle spirited people that I have ever met. Ella is just beautiful! She is such a sweet baby and capturing her has been wonderful! You may recognize them from their dental practice photos as well. Thank you Brandon and Malinda for everything!

Oh dear, I promise that I don't make all babies cry :)

Leah and Yancey and Dylan are some of the people that I have been so lucky to work with this past year. I was able to capture Leah as a beautiful "Mom to be", and then see baby Dylan at just eight days old, and capture all of them as a family last week. Yancey is an awesome Dad and he has done more than his share of putting up with me. I love laughing with these three! They are truly wonderful people!

I can't say it enough -- I am blessed with the world's best clients!

Sometimes we all feel this way...
I adore baby Dylan, and I think he likes me, but let's be honest -- at the exact moment of this picture, I don't think he was too keen on me or my work as a photographer. I understand: There is nothing scarier than a strange woman (me), standing nearly inches from your face, with a big black box (my camera), pointed right at you.
So, this is a blog post tribute to all of my wonderful clients who give me the opportunity to get up close and personal, or share experienes with you, that wouldn't otherwise be documented. The first time I got an email from Bethany, inquiring about wedding photography, I knew that this would be a great fit for both of us! You see, Bethany works at M Creations, a flower shop downtown. She is so creative and her style is organic. Paul is the perfect fit for her. He is down to earth and so nice! Together, they just love each other.
Getting to spend the afternoon with them for their engagement photos was so much fun!
The spot that they chose suited them so well and I loved it! I could have photographed for hours and hours. If it weren't for the fact that the light left us, I may have :)

Thinking back on these past three years, I would have to say one of the very best parts of my job is working with brides and grooms.
I can remember one of my weddings this past August. It was breathtaking. The Mother/Son dance had just begun. As I clicked my camera, to capture the deep emotion from Mother to Son, I found myself crying alongside every other person watching. When I went back to edit their photos, I cried again, seeing the emotion caught on film. It was a pivotal point in my wedding season as I truly understood exactly what I get to do. I get to freeze time for a moment, to capture something real and beautiful. You will never know what a great honor this is for me.
Thank you so much to each bride and groom for choosing me to capture your day. I don't think you will ever know how much joy I receive from capturing you.

It was a Thursday afternoon, I walked into the Tea Bar to meet Dani and instantly felt at hoome with her family! We talked about the session while they finished their edamame and tea... So much fun! We were already laughing and the session had yet to begin!
They had brought so many great things to include in their photographs -- cowboy boots, converse socks, nerf guns (Can you tell she has boys)?.... They are a very close family and I truly enjoyed watching them interact and capturing all of the joy rolled into one family!

Chico California Photographer: Operation Christmas Card...

Every year around this time, I get a little nervous -- It is time for us, professional photographers, to take a nice self portrait for the Christmas Card. Oh dear, talk about pressure -- Pressure to have a good hair day (which doesn't happen often), pressure to take a photo with excellent composition and lighting, pressure to tilt our heads just right, there's just so much pressure (All Self-Induced, of course).

Well, today was that day and after at least thirty minutes of trying to take a nicely composed shot, we ended up with a one or two good ones. I know, you want to see which one we picked for our christmas card -- but I am sorry. I cannot show that to you. You see, I want everyone to be surprised when they open our Christmas Card. Maybe I am just silly about all of this, but what would be the fun of seeing a photo that you have already seen?

For now, here is our very last shot of the day -- And while our faces may look surprised here -- we really weren't and if some of you are reading into our expressions, they mean nothing more than silliness!

I met Ashley and Chris over a year ago when we first came to Chico. Instantly, I loved them and admired their great love for God and for people! I am honored to call them friends.

On the day of photos, Hadley decided that she didn't really like me, or at least like the idea that she was getting her photo taken. In the hours that I spent with her, I would say we became friends. And as you will see, at the very end of this session, as we were cleaning up, baby Hadley even gave me a smile :)

Chico California Photographer: A Quick Trip...

Well, Kenny and I are home from a very quick trip to San Francisco. Twenty Four Hours, Two Photo Sessions, Eight Miles of Walking, Fisherman's Wharf, Piers 1-39, The Ferry Building, China Town, Union Square, Cafe Maria, Starbucks, and Witnessing the Giant's Game Winning Home Run of the World Series on the big screen at the Civic Center with thousands of fan. Wow! I would say it was a great trip!

Let's just say there may be some new blisters on my toes today :)

Chico California Children's Photographer: Bits and Pieces

There are seasons in photography and I am definitely coming off of a very busy season. The fall is when wedding season collides with senior pictures, which collides with new babies being born, which collides with family sessions. These are the times when my poor husband lives off of grilled cheese sandwiches -- when my laundry lies in heaps around the basket because the basket is so full -- when I drink a few too many starbucks (or lately, tea lattes from the Tea Bar). I know, you almost feel bad for us, huh?
In all of this, I love my job and I love the seasons of this work. I haven't had the time to blog every single session lately, simply for times sake, but I did want to show off some of the beautiful children that I have worked with.

These two showed up at the end of their brother's senior portrait session. Definitely had to capture a bit of their cuteness:)

This four week old baby loved, and I mean LOVED his Dad. What a great giggle...

Chico California Wedding Photographer: Ryan and Kristine

Last week, I delivered a finished wedding product to one of my clients -- and I realized that I was kind of sad. Sad, because there is so much work I get to do with clients leading up to their wedding day. I don't want my work with them to end! I really feel like I get to know my clients and the following is one of the reasons:
My relationship with my clients begins from the first interaction, whether by email or phone call. However, the engagement session is really when I get to know my brides and grooms better. It really prepares me for the wedding day -- allowing me to see how the two interact and how I can best put them at ease and bring out their incredible beauty. So, naturally, I love engagement sessions and weddings and then, in the end, I don't want any of it to end!
Meet Ryan and Kristine -- they are a beautiful couple and will be getting married at Canyon Oaks Country Club in May. Ryan is outgoing and Kristine is lovely -- they compliment one another so well. I loved watching Ryan take such good care of Kristine. I loved how Kristine respects Ryan. And, I am thrilled that this is just the beginning of my work with them! Cheers Ryan and Kristine! I love every side of you two!

I am always so blessed to work with the cutest newborns -- Baby Dylan is no exception. He was such a great baby -- and look at all his hair! This month many babies have been born and I must say that taking photos of newborns is becoming one of my favorite things. Newborns are absolutely breathtaking!
Baby Ethan is a beautiful new creation -- he brings so much joy to his parents and I am just so glad to have been able to document him during his first week of life! What a blessing for me. Thank you so much Megan and Ryan!

I snapped a few photos of the nursey, but this has to be my favorite shot.

Ethan was so good to sleep through nearly all of the session!

The forecast held rain, but instead Angela and Joey had a gorgeous autumn day to celebrate their wedding. Angela and Joey met in college, both musicians with a love for people. Joey is one of those guys who is just so nice, he cares for the people around him and his love for Angela just shone through his eyes on their wedding day. Angela is quiet, but full of joy and it was such a privelege for me to capture her elegance. I am so excited to show off this lovely day.
Their wedding and reception was held at the Patrick Ranch, which I just loved! The Patrick Ranch is still being renovated, so the feel of the day was authentically vintage and rustic. Thanks Angela and Joey -- I am so grateful to have been a part of your day!

We went inside the ranch, which is truly in the midst of construction, but I just loved some of the aged walls and colors. Very fun!

Chico California Photographer: Marissa and Brandon

Two months ago, Marissa and Brandon were living in Washington, about to celebrate their first wedding anniversary, when Brandon received a job offer! The job would take them far away from home and began in a brief two weeks. Before either of them could really even begin to process all that was happening, they found themselves hundreds of miles from home in a little city called Chico.... and I, well, I couldn't be more excited!

You see, Marissa just happens to be my sister! So while this job offer moved both her and Brandon far from their parents and all they had ever known, I could not be more grateful for their physical presence here in Chico. It has been a challenging, but greatly blessed journey for the two of them. They are amazing people and they are both greatly, greatly loved in this new city. Brandon is working tirelessly to redirect the PE program at Chico Christian School while Marissa is already teaching private piano lessons out of her studio. (If you are looking for a great piano instructor, Marissa is the best!)
To celebrate their first year together and all they have been through, I took them out for a little photo session last weekend and here are some of the results. I love you guys to pieces!!

Yep, who doesn't want to hang out with these two? They are a blast!

I love the way that Brandon takes care of Marissa -- and gently leads her while also letting her blossom into the strong person that she is!

Oh the fields of Chico are beautiful right now! The two of them are just stunning!

I adore this family -- and so when Stacey asked me to take Justin's senior photos, I was so pleased! Of course, boys typically do not want to get their photos taken, but Justin was such a trooper (as you can see in this set -- I was probably asking him to do something totally out of his comfort zone!)

As we were wrapping up his senior photos, Justin's two little sister's showed up, with the cutest outfits ever, so I definitely had to snap a couple photos. Here is just a tease of what is to come with this family!

Brianna was just finishing up beauty school when her boyfriend, Jeff, came in for his haircut. As she finished up his hair and walked him to the door, he made sure to pay her for the cut. When she turned around though, instead of paying in cash, Jeff was down on one knee, asking Brianna to be his wife. They celebrated the evening with a beautiful dinner, Brianna still stunned out how Jeff had truly surprised her with his proposal.
This is just part of their story and I am excited to share their beautiful day with you in pictures. Jeff and Brianna, thank you so much for letting me be a part of your day. I was honored beyond words to share in your moments and I just love your families!

Because Jeff and Brianna did not have a "first look" before the wedding, I only had about twenty minutes with them afterward. Here are some of my favorite shots from that time together.

BACIO Catering and Mim's Bakery did an exceptional job with the evening. It was beautiful!

The dancing was the highlight of my night -- and made me cry right alongside them. All of these people just love each other so much and it was so sweet to see.

This year, I have been able to focus much more on the wedding and engagement side of photography, and let me tell you, I am so loving it! Meet David and Casey, two amazing people who I had the privelege to capture a couple weeks ago. They met at Chico State University and will be working on staff with Campus Crusade next year. They serve other students so much and they both are just authentic and beautiful people.
Honestly, I wish I could document more of their story in word, because I know it is inspiring, but may these photos tell you a little bit about their life. I am so looking forward to their wedding in January!

Yancey and Leah have known each other for over seven years -- they have been married for a couple years and are so excited to meet their little son sometime this month. When I photographed these two, Leah was in her 37th week of pregnancy! Doesn't she look awesome? She was even wearing heels! I loved meeting Leah and Yancey and hearing some of their story. The day was gorgeous! Bridget and Ryan had waited years for this, and their wedding day certainly lived up to its expectations! As Bridget prepared to see her husband, I was touched by her emotion and anticipation of this day. Chico California Photography: A Day of Rest

These last three weeks have been wonderful and exhausting and full! I am so grateful for all of the work: So many beautiful weddings to capture and so many awesome clients to work with! With such a busy schedule, comes a lot of editing -- hours and hours, day and night, are spent in front of my computer.
While I enjoy this, today, our family needed a day off together. Now you should know that I actually really believe in a balanced life -- Weekends and rest are a normal part of our life, but in August, during the peak of my wedding season, I typically work six days a week.
Now Mondays are always our day off -- both of us! Today was an awesome day. We slept in, made a big breakfast with homemade smoothies, took a bike ride, went for a swim, and had a lovely afternoon. I am so thankful for the day of rest. We needed it!
So tomorrow, we are back to work -- and a lot of it. God has blessed us with great jobs, awesome mentors and so much encouragement. We praise Him for all of these things!
And because a post is not quite as good without a photo, here is a photo of my new favorite find: These heels were just too cute to pass up! I have been inspired by all of my brides lately -- a cute pair of shoes does wonders for a woman!

A couple years ago, Kenny and I met Jeremy and Mari Lyn. They became good friends to us and I am so grateful for all the ways that they have been a part of our lives. He is a miracle indeed and I love to see the joy that he has brought to his parents. Jeremy and Mari Lyn -- you are such amazing parents. I am so proud of you and I love, love Caleb!

I emailed Anna's Mom in June to set up Anna's senior photo session. As soon as we began talking, I knew that this would be an great shoot. Anna's Mom knew the value of investing in photography and she also wanted to be a part of making this a wonderful experience for Anna. Our creativity just flowed perfectly together!
As for Anna, she is a vocalist -- and has a beautiful voice! I kept hoping she would break out in song for me during the photo session. She plans to pursue music in college next year. As we spent time together, I was so excited to be a part of capturing her senior year. I know that God is going to use her for great things in this world!
